The TurboDL program
What stays on your computer
- Your download list (addresses, file names, progress) and your settings, in your personal configuration folder.
- Your API keys for 1fichier and send.now: encrypted with your Windows account protection on Windows; on macOS and Linux, saved in a file only you can read.
- The cookies shared by the extension for a download, kept with that download in the list.
- Your 1fichier and send.now session (cookies of these two sites only), shared by the extension to download with your account without an API key: encrypted on Windows, in a file only you can read on macOS and Linux. It is deleted when you sign out of these sites or turn off the option in the extension.
Who TurboDL communicates with
- The servers of the files you download.
- The TurboDL website, at startup and then every 5 minutes while the program is open, to read the latest version number (version.json file) and, if you agree, download the update. This check only reveals your TurboDL version.
- For a torrent, its trackers, the DHT network and its other participants. They see your IP address and the torrent you are downloading: that is how BitTorrent works. During the download, TurboDL also sends them pieces it has already received, up to 512 KB/s, and stops as soon as the content is complete.
- The 1fichier and send.now APIs, only for your links to these sites or when you click “Check”. Your API key is then sent to them, as their service requires.
TurboDL sends no usage statistics, no error reports, no identifier. It contains no ads.
The local interface
The interface is served at 127.0.0.1, reachable only from your computer. It refuses requests from other websites, so that a malicious page cannot control TurboDL without your knowledge.
The browser extension
The extension communicates only with TurboDL, on your computer. When it hands over a download, it shares the file address, the originating page, your browser's identity and the cookies of the site concerned, so that the download works as it does in the browser.
So that TurboDL can use your 1fichier or send.now account without an API key, the extension also shares, every 5 minutes and at each sign-in or sign-out, the cookies of these two sites only. You can turn off this sharing in one click in the extension window (“Use my 1fichier and send.now session”). The extension does not read the content of the pages you visit.
This website
- It uses no cookies and no audience measurement tool.
- The site's host may keep technical logs (IP address, page requested) to ensure its operation and security.
%APPDATA%\TurboDL on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/TurboDL on macOS, ~/.config/TurboDL on Linux.
